Luke Lilledahl talks about making his third consecutive world team.

Geneva, OH -Wyoming Seminary's Luke Lilledahl has once again earned a spot on the world team, further cementing his ranking as one of the top wrestlers in the country. This accomplishment is not new to Lilledahl as he has previously earned a silver medal in the 2021 world championships and a gold medal in 2022. In order to qualify for the U20 world team, Lilledahl had to compete in a challenging best-of-three series against Troy Spratley of the Cowboy RTC in the 57kg weight class. In contrast, Spratley had to work his way through the bracket and win a tough 12-7 battle against Bishop McCort's Jax Forrest in the finals held at the Spire sports complex. Lilledahl earned his place in the best-of-three series by winning the U.S. Open tournament held in Las Vegas back in April.

Lilledahl emerged victorious over Spratley, winning the first two matches with scores of 9-4 and 4-2. Despite acknowledging Spratley's effective use of underhooks and the closely contested nature of second matches in a series, Lilledahl's preparedness and determination allowed him to secure the series win and earn a spot on the team. While pleased with his performance, Lilledahl recognized that there is still work to be done before competing in Poland. "I'm happy with my performance as always. But there's still a lot of work to be done before I go to Poland to win another gold medal," he stated. Lilledahl also expressed his desire to prove himself in the new weight class and division, which he believes he achieved by securing the world team spot this year. When asked about his competitive approach shift from last year to this year, Lilledahl emphasized his drive for improvement in every aspect - physical, mental, and personal.

Lilledahl, who has committed to wrestle for Penn State, has been utilizing the Nittany Lion Wrestling Club to enhance his training. Lilledahl praised the club's training facilities and resources, stating that "The NLWC is a great training environment, and they have all the resources I could ask for." He makes an effort to train there whenever possible when his schedule permits. The daily grind of training can be challenging. When asked about how he manages this aspect of the sport, Lilledahl stated, "I try to stay in the moment and focus on the task at hand, whatever it may be." Lilledahl expressed gratitude for the support of his parents, teammates, and coaches at Wyoming Seminary during tough times. "My Parents have been a huge support for me, as well as my coaches and teammates at SEM. I couldn't ask for a better group of people to help me along my journey, and I'm thankful to have all of them," he added.

Lilledahl wanted to also give a special shout out to Tommy "Guns" Federici who helps him out with strength and conditioning. "I get a lot of extra support from Tommy "Guns" Federici as one of my weight lifting coaches. He's the best and pushes me to my limits, but he makes The morning "Breakfast Club" workouts fun as well". Lilledahl remarked

As the world championships draw near, there is no doubt that Lilledahl will be putting in the hard work and dedication required to prepare himself for the grueling competition ahead. With his sights set on another gold medal, he will undoubtedly leave no stone unturned in his training and preparation. His commitment to his craft and his relentless pursuit of excellence make him a dangerous opponent, and one to watch out for in the upcoming championships.

The United World Wrestling U20 world championships are just around the corner, set to take place in Warsaw, Poland, from August 14th to 20th. Wrestling fans can catch all the live action of the event on Flo Wrestling and Flo Arena.
