Catawba N.C.— Lake Norman looked to be on a mission winning their second straight tournament in a row. The Wildcats won the Viking Invitational last Saturday scoring 193.5 points with four individual champions. This week the Wildcats won the Trojan invitational tournament at Bandys high school today with 169.5 points and five individual champions.
In the finals at 138lbs, JT Richards who had to sit out last season; won a 9-4 decision over Elijah Harris of Central Academy. “It feels amazing to be back with the team and having great partners to wrestle with everyday” Richards said.
Richards won the The Viking Invitational last weekend beating Luke Kunath of Cardinal Gibbons in finals 5-2. Kunath placed third in the 4A state tournament held back in June. When I asked Richards about his confidence level after these two tournament wins, he said this “It’s pretty high right now. I mean I already knew I was this good but I couldn’t prove it to anyone last year but this year I can, and that’s what I’m willing to do”
Eli Murray won his first varsity tournament defeating Logan Fite of Central Academy with a :50 pin in the 1st period at 145lbs. Brody Neal won by pin in the finals at 152lbs over Rock Hill’s Taraquas Young, that was also Neal’s second straight varsity tournament win.
Carson Floyd and Sakarri Morrison both secured championships up top for the Wildcats. Floyd, a Super 32 All American and Pre Season National Champion pinned Austin Cline of Bandy’s in the final at 220lbs. Morrison won a 9-1 major decision over Christian Hercules of West Rowan in his final.
Floyd and Morrison both won the Viking Invitational tournament on Saturday as well. Other placers for the Wildcats included Noah Murray, 3rd at 120lbs, Jeremiah Garcia, 4th at 126lbs, Patrick Lacoves, 2nd at 152lbs, Caleigh Suddreth 4th at 160lbs, and Keagan Bradley 2nd at 182lbs. Looks like Head Coach, Josh Stanley really has these boys coached up.
