The second match followed a similar pattern, with Gilman initially leading 2-2 on criteria. However, in a dramatic turn of events, Lee surged ahead with a takedown, two turns, and a pin on Gilman in 5:58.
While Lee now holds the title of Olympic Trials champion, his journey to becoming an Olympian is not yet complete. The Murrysville, Pa., native will need to qualify the U.S. for the 57-kg competition at the 2024 Olympics in Paris. His next challenge awaits in Istanbul, Turkey, at the World Olympic Games Qualifier scheduled for May 9-12. The United States still has five weights to qualify for Paris, including 57 kg and 65 kg in men's freestyle, as well as 60 kg, 67 kg, and 77 kg in Greco-Roman.
Lee showed his dominance at the Olympic Team Trials, finishing with a perfect 4-0 record and outscoring his opponents 35-11. His impressive performance included victories over top competitors like Nico Megaludis, Zane Richards, and Thomas Gilman, solidifying his spot as the Trials champion. With his eyes set on Olympic gold, Lee is determined to continue his quest for success.
In the 57 kg weight class, Jax Forrest and Marcus Blaze competed for third place and spots on the U.S. National Team after a series of forfeits in the consolations. Blaze emerged victorious with a 4-1 win, showcasing his resilience after a first-round loss.
At 65 kg, Zain Retherford defeated Nick Lee in an all-Penn State final to secure his place as the Trials winner. However, both Retherford and Lee still need to qualify the weight for the Olympics, with Retherford set to compete in Istanbul. In the wrestlebacks,

At 86 kg, Aaron Brooks stunned David Taylor, the returning World champ and 2020 Olympic gold medalist, with a 4-1 win. Mark Hall signaled his retirement after losing to Trent Hidlay, with Hidlay ultimately finishing in third place overall.
In the 97 kg weight class, Kyle Snyder showcased his skills with a 5-0 victory over Isaac Trumble in the first match. Nate Jackson secured third place after a strong comeback following a quarterfinal loss.
Mason Parris dominated the 125 kg weight class, securing a 7-0 victory over Hayden Zillmer in the first match. Dom Bradley rallied for third place in the challenge tournament, with Nick Gwiazdowski ultimately winning the true-third match.
